Dr Alison Spink
Registered Osteopath (Associate)
B.Clin.Sci, M.Ost
Certified Pilates instructor
Hi there. I’m Alison and I love working on all sorts of body problems.
I’ve always been passionate about movement. This started with my first career as a professional ballet dancer. I then spent over 10 years working as a Pilates instructor before becoming an Osteopath. I bring my love of the body and the experience gained from both of these backgrounds into my treatment when working with you.
I have a particular interests in:
Neck and shoulder pain
Whiplash injuries
Chronic condition management including the Perrin Technique
Pre and postnatal care, particularly safe exercise for pelvic floor conditions
Foot and ankle issues
And of course I love working with dancers and performers of all ages
What you can expect from a consultation with me:
I enjoy working in partnership with my clients to understand their treatment goals and find the best solutions possible. My experience in Pilates and dance means that I can work on issues from multiple different angles so that we can find a solution that suits you.
My treatment style usually includes some form of hands-on manual therapy, although I believe in using exercise rehabilitation to compliment my treatment when necessary to improve long term outcomes.
My hands-on techniques may include Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), Counterstrain Techniques, Myofascial Release and Soft/Deep Tissue Massage, High Velocity-Low Amplitude HVLA (spinal manipulation techniques), balanced ligamentous technique (BLT) and Visceral techniques.
While working both in Brisbane and London as a Pilates instructor I completed further training and taught specific classes for pre and postnatal women, including pelvic floor safe exercise. I look forward to further expanding on this knowledge throughout my osteopathic career.
