Low Back pain treatment

What is low back pain?

Back pain is unpleasant but very common. Approximately 80% of people will experience low back pain at some point in their lives. Many will experience it more than once. Luckily most low back pain isn’t serious or permanent, but sometimes it helps to see a professional with experience in treating low back pain to speed your recovery along.

At Pivot Osteopathy, we see people with back pain everyday. Pain can arise from a variety of causes such as:

  • Disc injury

  • Muscle strains or joint sprains

  • Sciatica or other nerve entrapment

  • A combination of issues commonly known as ‘Non-specific’ low back pain. Non-specific low back pain in the most common type of back pain worldwide.

How do our Osteopaths help with low back pain?

At Pivot Osteopathy we want long-term results. That is why we focus on individualised care that aligns with how your injury occurred, your goals and your lifestyle.

Each back pain treatment session is a personalised, one-on-one session that usually includes:

  • Discussion about where it hurts, how the back pain started, previous injuries and other relevant history

  • A physical assessment, which may include orthopedic or neurological testing where clinically indicated

  • Hands-on treatment. Our Osteopaths are highly skilled in a variety of techniques that are designed to improve mobility and decrease pain. These techniques may include soft tissue massage, mobilisation of joints, stretching, myofascial techniques, visceral release techniques.

  • Exercises and/or stretches. We target the key exercises that will help get your back moving better. If you already have a Personal Trainer, Exercise Physiologist or other exercise therapist working with you, we can work with them too.

  • Education. Because understanding how pain works, why you got injured and what you can do to avoid future injuries are key to managing and preventing low back pain.

At Pivot Osteopathy, we focus on reducing your low back pain symptoms. But we also want to help you build your health toolbox and equip you with the ‘tools’ you need to get through this episode of back pain and avoid future episodes.
